Mission Trip to the Philippines
From August 3 to August 17, I’m excited to be headed to Philippines participating in a mission trip with health workers and people of faith on a medical and solidarity mission to various farming and Lumad (indigenous) communities in Mindanao. I’m also excited to share that I will be going with my mother, Flor Amor. This will be both my mother’s and my first time participating in community integration in the Philippines and participating in a medical and solidarity mission.
During our mission trip, we will be learning from the people who have dedicated their lives to protect their rights to their land, food, peace with justice, and life itself. We will be learning firsthand about the militarization of their communities, and human rights violations they and their communities are up against to protect their people and ancestral lands. We will witness firsthand the role of churches and people of faith in the struggle for peace with justice.
Additionally, the health workers on the trip will be serving the community through providing health services while the rest of us will be providing psycho-social services to the children as well as getting to teach classes in their school.
My mom and I are still working on fundraising for this trip, so please consider supporting us financially. Thank you for considering supporting us by praying and/or giving financially. Any amount and support you can give will be greatly appreciated. This trip will not be possible without the generosity of so many. Donations can be sent by Venmo @Janelle-Viray or on our Tilt fundraising page: bit.ly/ISMTrip2016
Also I would love it if you would pray for this mission trip experience. Pray for the ten missioners who are going that we would be open to learning from the community we’re visiting and that our minds, hearts, and spirits will be prepared for the trip. Pray for the farmers, Lumad, and community leaders who we meet that they will win their fight for peace and justice in their communities, and that we could honor them well by sharing their stories when we return. Pray for my mom and me that this trip will bring us closer together and fuel the fire that keeps us loving and serving others.
If you will commit to praying for us, please let me know. I would love to share that news with my mom and the other missioners. My mom and I are so excited for this new opportunity in our commitment to serving the people and we look forward to sharing with you about the experience when we return!
